Put your faith in motion

“Keep asking and it will be given to you. Keep searching and you will find. Keep knocking and the door will be opened to you.”

Matthew 7:7

My Prayer

I prayed for the gifts of wisdom and knowledge.

On red-letter day in 2020, through the words of my friends and peers, God revealed that my gift is faith. I never would have imagined this.

One friend wrote, “While everyone else is standing around looking for ‘faith the size of a mustard seed’, I imagine you to be the guy who smiles at heaven, grabs a shovel, and starts moving the mountain one humble scoop at a time. I can hear you saying, ‘Until God shows up and says otherwise, I’ll be right here digging up this mountain.’”

Waiting in Motion

What an amazing moment of revelation! I had been following the prescription given in Matthew 7:7.

  • “Asking” means praying for an answer.

  • “Searching” is seeking God’s will in the situation.

  • “Knocking” is to trust Him and take action.

In other words, waiting in motion.

An Example

One particular example comes to mind.

In the summer of 2015. My family was just south of Shreveport, La., living in a terrible situation. We had to move or soon become negative statistics. We began to pray and seek a solution. God showed us Greenbrier, Ar. I asked God if this was the right move for my family and His exact response was, “I’m not doing it for you. It’s for someone else.” He said it twice.

One week later, I was jobless, soon to be homeless, and obediently loading a U-Haul with all our belongings. As I was motoring north, my wife phoned to tell me she found a house to rent. The company I had interviewed with called and made a nice offer, including a moving bonus!

Less than a year later, our three-year old son was diagnosed with brain cancer. I cannot say for certain that the “someone else” was my son, but I can say for certain that all his treatment and healing miracles took place at ACH, about an hour drive from our house. He is currently in remission.

Grow Your Faith

I exhort all of you to grow your faith by taking action. Step out in faith and wait in motion.

  • If you desire to know the Word better, pray, seek wisdom, then start a bible study. It will flourish.

  • If you are terrified of sharing the Gospel, pray, study, and start befriending people. He will use you.

  • If you want to know God’s heart, pray, seek instruction, and start feeding the homeless and broken. You will find His heart.

A Step of Faith

Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with My eye on you, I will give counsel.”

If we would just take the first step of faith, He will guide us, He will grow us, and He will use us for His glory.

After kneeling, stand and become men of action in faith.
