“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
Ephesians 3:20–21 (NKJV)
The Truth of Faith
One of the great challenges of faith is that it doesn’t exist until it’s applied. Consider the story of the tightrope walker at Niagara Falls. He crossed on a rope, then carried a bag of rocks, and finally pushed a wheelbarrow across. The crowd cheered louder with every feat. But when he asked, “Which one of you will get in?”, the crowd fell silent. Faith doesn’t truly exist until we get in the wheelbarrow.
Our God Is...
Recently, I learned that a godly couple I deeply respect is facing a life-altering diagnosis: the wife has Alzheimer’s disease. My initial reaction was grief and anger. Why would I assume there is no hope just because medical science lacks a cure? Our God is:
Ephesians 3:20: “…able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”
The Spirit reminded me of Christ’s power: He cured leprosy with a word, raised a young man from his coffin, and healed a woman who simply touched His hem. These truths prompted me to beg God for a wonder. I am asking Him to cure this precious lady’s Alzheimer’s.
I Want In!
I know it isn’t always God’s will to heal physical disease, but I want to possess a "get-in-the-wheelbarrow" faith. I am asking because Jesus told us to be persistent (Luke 11:5-10) and reminded us that our Father is good (Matt. 7:7-11). We have a High Priest who invites us to come boldly to Him:
Hebrews 4:14–16: “Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Ask & Trust
My faith isn’t in my faith; it is in Jesus. Please get in the wheelbarrow with me and ask the Lord to work this wonder for His glory. Whether He heals her instantly, through medicine, or by taking her home, it is all up to Him. But let’s ask and see what our Savior will do.
