Samson & Giving God Credit
You are all familiar with the story of Samson and his somewhat outlandish traits.
Killing a lion
Fighting the Philistine’s with a Donkey’s jawbone
Using 300 foxes to burn crops
Delilah
The list could go on for days. What I want to touch on with this story is the aspect of
giving God credit.
Throughout Samson’s life, a roller coaster of life it was, he had countless opportunities to obey God and give him credit for the works he was able to perform. However, it wasn’t until the end of his life that we see Samson humbly approach God in prayer and look to use his gifts in a way that God intended.
How often do we get caught up in our own accomplishments? In other words, "Look at what I’ve done." Do we tell others of our recent promotion, an award we received or maybe another accomplishment that we are proud of?
While there is nothing wrong with taking pride in our accomplishments, may we never pass up a chance to give thanks to God for what he has done in our lives. While God doesn’t need our credit, he does place us in situations that we need to be mindful of and use those situations to bring others close to him.
