How have you built this habit?

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”

‭‭Mark 1:35‬‬

Let's be Clear Here

James Clear is one of the leading experts on the topic of self-improvement through building better systems in our life that lead to better habits. The statement Clear uses that has penetrated MD5 is,“You will not rise to the level of your goals, but you will fall to the level of your systems.” Great systems create great habits.

Clear’s Four Laws of Building Better Habits

  • The 1st law (Cue): Make it obvious.

  • The 2nd law (Craving): Make it attractive.

  • The 3rd law (Response): Make it easy.

  • The 4th law (Reward): Make it satisfying

In My Experience

After ten years of observing MD5 men it has been very interesting to watch how men use different systems to build better habits into their lives. The most consistent system that I hear of is a morning routine of study and prayer.

I’ll share here what so many men have shared with me about their morning systems that align with building good habits.

Make it obvious by placing your Bible and/or study material in a place where you can’t miss it. You can also place your cell phone, wallet, and keys on your Bible so you can’t start your day without seeing and touching it.

Make it attractive by making it brief and efficient. Don’t focus on an hour routine if you’ve never done this. Instead, focus on doing this for three minutes each day.

Make it easy by placing all of your necessary reading and study material out the night before. Have it opened to the exact page where you will be reading.

Make it satisfying by starting every day with this routine. I know several men will not have coffee or breakfast until this daily routine is completed.
