“You yourselves are our letter of recommendation,

written on our hearts, to be known and read by all.”

2 Corinthians 3:2 (ESV)

What Do People Read About You?

We’ve all heard it said, “You may be the only Bible some people ever read.” That’s not just a catchy line—it’s a sobering truth. The apostle Paul reminds us that our lives are letters, read daily by those around us. The question is, what are they reading?

A Scary Point

Chuck Swindoll once told the story of a seminary president who invited a well-known lecturer to speak in chapel. Afterward, they went to lunch. When the waitress accidentally spilled water, the lecturer lashed out in anger, belittling her as she struggled to clean up the mess. Their table and those surrounding them fell silent. Then the seminary president leaned over and whispered, “I dare you to witness to her when she comes back.” His point was clear—our actions can either open or slam shut the door to the gospel.

A Bad Position

I can’t cast stones. Earlier this year, my mother, who has dementia, unknowingly gave out financial information to a scammer—twice in one month. I was furious. While fixing the issue with a credit card company, I grew impatient with a rude customer service rep and snapped back. The Spirit immediately convicted me—if the opportunity had arisen, I had not positioned myself to share Christ effectively.

This Matters

Everyday lives matter. How we live out our faith matters. People can tell more about us from our reactions than our actions. It’s not just a Sunday thing—it’s an everyday thing. Brothers, may those who “read” our lives find the pages filled with grace, truth, and the hope of Christ.
